Your own home recording studio

Many moons ago, when I was a young boy, I had the best present for my birthday, a state of the art piece of recording equipment that made me feel like I owned a complete recording studio, and in a way I did. I remember being so proud to own a sophisticated piece of hardware like that and it sure has given me countless hours of recording fun.

This state of the art recording equipment was of course a tape recorder. It was one of the first tape decks that allowed the owner to plug in a microphone making it possible to record just about anything. Especially during the first few weeks I recorded just about anything I could, from radio broadcasts to myself attempting to play the guitar, I even secretly recorded a conversation or two between my parents. I held the world in my hands so to speak.

Years after those fun times I have been the proud owner of many recording devices, ranging from the first 8 track devices to one of the first stereo tape decks equipped with auto reverse. Those days have long gone and while I still own a regular tape deck it’s sitting there on top of my stereo set up collecting dust.

These days my PC has taken over all tasks for recording. In this day and age, the possibilities using a modern computer are amazing. The hardware in the shape of soundcards as well as the software available for recording on a PC is simply amazing. Multi-track recording, editing and adding effects to the compositions is all done with just a few clicks on the mouse button! Most audio editing and recording programs come with their own arsenal of effects one can use, like reverb and chorus, but there are many more. If the desired effect is not in the software the option to download it online is usually available.

Nothing could be easier than creating your own recording studio at home as the soundcard inside the computer comes with a so called midi connection and interface allowing you to hook up just about anything. It has many purposes as you can use it for digitizing your old vinyl LP collection and cassettes, you can also use it to record your own music. The possibilities are endless.

Thanks to the digital age recording at home is now easier than ever before and available to anyone who owns a computer. So if you are a music enthusiast and would like to do more than playing MP3 files, head out to the store and get some recording software in order to start up your own home recording studio.
